TWO NEW PROJECTS: and two new products

So the last thing I need to do is start another project, let alone two.  But you know how it goes-

it's just so addicting.

-Project No. 1-

In January, I started a Project Life album.  I had purchased all of my materials loooong before, but never got a chance to put them to use.  During my winter vacation from teaching I finally got started and designed a set of craft-inspired cards that I could journal on using the computer.  I love the look of craft paper and my goal is to keep the album neutral, with the only color being from my photographs/memorabilia.  I have chosen to stick with three basic fonts and to use font size and placement to create a modern, graphic look.  (Nothing makes me happier than bold fonts, straight lines, and simplicity.) I also created some graphic overlays to use on the journaling cards to highlight my titles.

I decided to go with the Modern 12x12 D-Ring Album by American Crafts.  I loved how the cover was a piece of chipboard and my plan was to ink some kind of phrase or quote on it one day.  However I have found two big drawbacks to this cover: 1. The edges get damaged easily (totally erked about this) and 2. You have to be very careful about not handling it when you've just put lotion on your hands.  BIG oops.  I am seriously considering buying another cover.

For the inside pages I'm using a variety of Photo Pocket Pages from Becky Higgins.

Here you can see how I've mixed my journaling cards with my photos.  This week we took Ethan on his first ski trip and started reading chapter books.  I don't have a lot of time to work on projects like this so I've decided just to stick with using photos/memorabilia and journaling cards- no hand-made embellishments or other goodies from my paper scrapping days.

More views of the same two pages.

Here's a peek at a pages from the following week.  I wanted some variation to my cards, so I designed different shades of craft paper and overlayed them with subtle patterns, still keeping them simple enough to be used for everyday life.

If you would like to create a similar look for your Project Life album, I'm excited to announce that this set of journaling cards is now available at Oscraps.  It comes with 3x4 and 4x6 cards saved as easy-to-print PDF files, layered PSD files for customization, and individual PNG files for digital projects.

and now for

-Project #2-

For a while now, I've always yearned for the ability to use the Instagram photo app that everyone seems to have so much fun with.  The only problem is that I don't have an iphone, and while there are similar apps available on my phone, you can't compare to the real deal.

Just recently it dawned on me that I could get Instagram on my ipad.  Duh.  And now a whole world of photo fun has been opened up for me.  My new found love for these little snapshots of my life inspired me to create a template that I could print them out on.  The template is simply a piece of craft paper with space on it for my Instagram photo and a title and date.  It is sized to 4x6, so I just print them out on my photo printer and slip them into a 4x6 photo album.

I decided to title this album My Life in Instagrams.  I went with this style of album because I've had 3 of them just sitting in my craft closet collecting dust for several years.  It's just a basic 4x6 photo album with sleeves to slip your pictures into.

I originally created only one, basic craft background.  Then I decided I wanted more variety in color.  So I designed 3 more craft-like backgrounds in different shades, with different pattern overlays.  They match perfectly with my everyday | printable journaling cards so that I can use them in my Project Life pages as well.

If you would like to start your own album like this, my template is now available as a free download from my Oscraps store.
